Once, I was on an official tour to Bangkok along with my other colleagues: as we were having dinner by the swimming pool in our hotel, one of my colleagues, while standing and chatting with others besides the pool, did not realise he was already at the edge, and took a step backwards and fell in the water. His dish sank to the bottom and plenty of food came floating up to the water. The gentleman, not a swimmer himself, was struggling to remain on the surface. One of the hotel employees jumped into the pool and rescued him. Soaked and embarrassed, my colleague immediately rushed to his room. When he came back, he told us that his passport had been in his pocket, and now he was worried and sought advice from others on how to dry it. Someone from the group, advised him to dry in the microwave; just a few minutes, and it would be back to shape, he said in jest. But he took the advice seriously, and when he took it out from the microwave, his passport looked like a tennis ball; as a result, he could not come back to Pakistan with us and had to stay behind until the embassy issued him a new passport. He may not have enjoyed a good reputation at home because when his wife was informed about the episode, she did not believe it and took it as an excuse for him staying some extra days alone in Bangkok.

Today, I went to the beachfront with my kids. I found a sea shell
